Who We Are

IMG_2315.JPG

We are a group of educators in Alberta who teach students with significant disabilities. We teach in a variety of educational settings including specialized schools, specialized classrooms and grade-level classrooms in both rural and urban settings. Our schools are in each of the regional zones of the province including public and separate, and private schools. We meet face-to-face twice a year, once in the fall and once in June. We meet for three scheduled online meetings and webinars from October to June for one school year. We also interact with each other through emails, and accessing and contributing to a secure section of the wiki. The community is supported by a project coordinator from Edmonton Regional Learning Consortia and a manager from Alberta Education.

Our Overall Project Goal

Our goal is to learn together and build on each other’s strengths to establish a peer mentoring program with our students who are faced with disabilities. We recognize the benefits of mentoring for both mentors and mentees and are looking for strategies to launch and/or enhance the mentorship program in our schools. We acknowledge that by working together, we can accomplish more and make even more of a positive difference in our students’ lives.
